To Start the Game...
(Optional) Play with Site cards by selecting one and applying its effects.
Each player is dealt as SECRET ROLE. Roles used in each game is based on the number of players and preference (see chart below)
Randomly draw 3 ARTIFACT cards and place in STORAGE
(Optional) Draw 2 more ARTIFACT cards and place in SOLD
Shuffle together rest of the artifact cards and event cards and place facedown as the DRAW pile
While ensuring secrecy, allow specific roles to identify the players of the role(s) they are AWARE of (e.g. Tomb Raiders know who each other are, and who the Mafia Boss is. Possessed knows who the Tomb Raiders are)
What Each Side Wants to Achieve...
Each side has TWO winning conditions. First team to achieve ONE of them WINS.
The Academics want to:
Collect 4 pieces of one Artifact
Reveal ALL Looters
The Looters want to:
Kill the POSSESSED player
Have 2 or more pieces of EACH artifact in Sold and Discard combined
Each Round...
must Reveal their role, then used their Active ability, if not already. Players will take turns drawing the card of the round,
If an ARTIFACT card is drawn, without discussion, each player must vote for whether they want to keep the piece or not.
If kept, the piece goes in STORAGE.
If not, the piece goes in SOLD
A maximum of 5 cards can be kept in Storage at a time. If a 6th piece is drawn and kept, one of the OTHER 5 must be SOLD
At this point, the group can decide if any other piece is to be sold
If an EVENT card is drawn, follow the instructions on the card
If a VOTE of any kind if required (including ELECTIONS), players may discuss before all players must vote. Result of the vote goes to majority.
Certain events can be modified by RESOURCES (listed in bold on the card). Cost of each resource is written in brackets, meaning the number of pieces to be DISCARDED from SOLD. 1/3 or more of the remaining players must agree before an resource is bought.
At any time during the round, you can:
Use your Active Role Abilities
Suggest to buy a Resource
In the rare event of death, the dead player must Reveal their role, and may use their Active ability if they haven't yet.
To End the Game...
The game ends at the FIRST announced instance of any side achieving one of their WINNING CONDITIONS. If a set of actions happening simultaneously meets the winning conditions of BOTH sides, see the Order of Execution to determine the winning side.
Order of Execution:
Draw card from deck
Read card instructions
Discussion
Role Ability, then Reveal Role
Effect of Resource
Final result of Card Effect
End of round
Rule Clarifications and FAQ
*Specific card instructions will always OVERRIDE general rules*
Please shuffle the deck after SEARCHING through it
Whenever an event of role ability directs you to ADD card(s) to STORAGE beyond its capacity, the new card(s) will REPLACE a number of the original Storage that is required to make them fit
Artifact pieces can only be SOLD when an ARTIFACT card is drawn
When voting for which artifact piece to sell or discard, different pieces of the SAME artifact can be considered as one
In case of ties in votes: it will go to either the DISAGREE group (in case of yes/no votes) or chosen randomly between the tied parties
Storage Expansion (event) and Borrow Exhibit (event) CANNOT be active at the same time. If one is drawn while the other is active, the new card's effect is NULLED
Foxfire (event) - named roles can include Revealed and Dead roles
Using resource to change Random event to Election does NOT change the card TYPE (i.e. events Scapegoat and Chosen One can't be negated or delayed this way)
China's special effect, Zombie Troop - If a VOTE requires more than one result, as long as you voted for one of the winners, you are considered in the MAJORITY
Shaman - When using their active ability, and they guessed WRONG with NO artifact cards in discard, the next discarded piece will be shuffled back in
Spain's special effect - players may call to check the hidden cards if they think a winning condition is achieved; if it was a wrong call, one DISCARDED piece returns to SOLD
